Established in 1957, the Southern Bar-B-Que Sauce company has stood the test of time among Cajuns in Southwest Louisiana. Originally starting with only two products; their original bar-b-que sauce and basting sauce; Southern quickly became a staple in Jeff Davis, and Acadia Parish, and had a strong customer base in other large cities along the Louisiana coast.
The original Southern Bar-B-Que Sauce Company had it's share ups and downs, but it never lost it's local appeal, and eventually found a home with Jennings, Louisiana locals, Andy and Drew Guinn. With a strong business foundation, and a love of traditional, Cajun cooking, the Guinns are poised to take the Southern, Inc. brand to the next level.
Since the acquisition of the original Southern Bar-B-Que Sauce Company, the Guinns have grown the product line to over 20 SKUs. Each of Southern's unique Cajun recipes is conceived and created by Drew Guinn, with the help of his family and friends. Whether at their camp, or on a Sunday afternoon, it has become something of a Southern tradition to invite these "test subjects" over to enjoy many of their new recipes. "If a recipe can pass these food critics," say Drew, "then folks all across the South should love it."
After passing the test of family and friends, Drew then presents the product to his food service clients to try in their restaurants. Once a new product gets consistent, positive feedback at this level, it is ready for the shelf.
The Southern, Inc. product line is diversified, ranging from bar-b-que sauces, to all-purpose seasonings. As of now, Southern has three delicious sauces; original, hot & spicy, and it’s newest edition, the Grill-N-Que Smokehouse Brown Sugar Sauce.
"At Southern, we believe that we're not only called to create; we're called to innovate," says Drew, "and this belief has become a reality in our new Grill-N-Que Sauce." Southern's new Grill-N-Que Sauce is produced in an upside down squeeze bottle; the first in the grilling & bar-b-que sector. This unique package was designed specifically for Southern, Inc. The new Grill-N-Que line also has two rubs; Louisiana Sweet Mesquite and Savory Steak.
In addition to these fine products, Southern produces a Cajun Salsa, Cajun Roux (both wet & dry), Brown Gravy Mix, All-Purpose Seasoning (regular & less-salt), Seafood Boil, Fish Fry, All-Purpose batter (for shrimp, chicken, wild game, etc.), and the very popular Cajun Spray Baster.
Southern's Cajun Spray Baster is another of their most innovative creations, and a great seller. With three flavor profiles, Original Bar-B-Que, Zesty Garlic & Herb, and Jalapeno Butter, this product has created a lot of buzz with grillers across the nation. It has been featured for it's unique package design, in Food & Beverage magazine.
The Southern family of Cajun products are unique in flavor, concept and design, which makes them stand out from their competitors on the shelves. With retailers like Wal-Mart, Albertsons, Associated Grocers, Cost Plus World Market, and Bed, Bath and Beyond as a few of it customers, the Southern brand is gaining recognition, and momentum.
